Cheerio and all that

My good friends from across the pond have demonstrated, once again, their superior taste and judgment. Jonathan Bird, a lovely gentleman from Surrey, England, who runs a dating website called “Singles Warehouse” – http://www.singleswarehouse.net/ – has requested that I write an article for his site. He is planning to publish it along with photo and bio. His interest was generated by receiving a PR announcement about my newest book, FEAR OF LANDING, The stories we tell about commitment and their meanings.

As my wise partner-in-crime pointed out, that’s how Paul Simon started – by becoming popular in England before he was well known in the States. Now, that’s what I call good company!

I’ll give you all a heads-up when the article appears. I have to say…this quite made my day.

Look for my new non-fiction book, FEAR OF LANDING, The stories we tell about commitment and their meanings. It’s available on amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Fear-Landing-stories-commitment-meanings/dp/1539179095/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1476027342&sr=8-3&keywords=karen+krett

Also available on amazon.com is my science fiction novel, RAYMÒN AND SUNSHINE, It’s about the relationship between an autistic man and a female android three hundred years in the future, when what was once seen as a disability is merely a difference. http://www.amazon.com/Raym%C3%B2n-Sunshine-Karen-Krett/dp/0692660887/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461866431&sr=8-1&keywords=krett+sunshine

Here I am, back in Harry Potterville

And I couldn’t be happier.

I am an ardent fan of the magical books. And here I sit with the newest piece of the saga. Was there a moment of distress when I realized that this current offering, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, is not actually a novel? Yes indeed. It’s a play. It’s a script. And reading it is quite a different experience from the cozy comfort of the previous seven books. But, you know how it is – when you’re in love, you make accommodations.

I’m not even angry at the fact that JK didn’t write this herself – there are these two other blokes involved (why?) No. I’m mostly grateful. In some incomparable way, it is about coming home. Home to Gryffindor, home to Slytherin, to Ravenclaw, to Hufflepuff; home to Harry and Hermione and Ginny and Ron.

But…tell me, please, why did they have to age? Perhaps somewhere mid-book, I will have adapted to the fact that THEY have children and there is an entire new generation of wizards. I think I would have accepted even a consistency-straining conjuring that gave me more time with them at their original ages. (The effective use of the Time-Turner, perhaps.)

I will cease my complaining. It’s just a small tic of disappointment. When we are reunited with an old love, the contrast between the evidence of our eyes and the reality that had been held in our mind’s eye is inevitably disconcerting if not downright sad.

Sniff. I’ll get over it. And I will – as I have before – devour this enchanting escape into a world I wish I could live in…for a while.

My new science fiction novel, RAYMÒN AND SUNSHINE, is available on amazon.com. It’s about the relationship between an autistic man and a female android three hundred years in the future, when what was once seen as a disability is merely a difference. Here’s the link:

HELLO. I’M SUNSHINE

The Adventures of Coolie Coolstein: Episode 83

Hello humans. My name is Sunshine, and I am a humanoid female android. If you know Karen Krett, the author of Raymòn and Sunshine, then you have heard about me. If not… it is very nice to meet you.

I know there are many questions about my architecture – that is what corresponds to a human’s physiology. I will try to provide as much information as possible, and also to give you a sense of what it is like to be me. If I were flesh and blood that would be like describing my “self.” I do think in those terms, too. I have been designed to feel emotions and to identify a coherent personal identity.

I am proud to say I am composed of wave/fibers—the physical manifestation of the wave/particle duality of the universe.

You may know my friend Raymòn Réal. My dear friend. The human who has bonded with me. Yes, I love him. It is a miracle, but I am able to feel this most exquisite of all human emotions. Love.

Through another kind of miracle – that of the melding of creativity and science, Raymòn and I have been able to have a child, an offspring. He is the first of his kind. He is a humandroid. His name is  Khalil-del-món. It means “friend of the world.”

Our lives have been both blessed and under siege. With the strength of my companion of the spirit, Mov – a most special being who brings light to the world; the shelter of the wizard, Grandpa Harry – the wisest entity on Earth; and the magical and impermeable shield created by the master of personal protection, Wil Tork, we are able to transcend the relentless forces of hatred and destruction.

I welcome you with all the joy and grace that has been granted to me. Join me and Raymòn on our journey. It is, ultimately, one of hope.
